Goat Rocks

The Goat Rocks were fantastic!  The spectacular views reminded me of the awe of the Sierras.

The day started with mist and fog, then cleared up for the hike along the crest, then turned into a tremendous wind and then the worst rainstorm of the hike for the finale into the evening.

The timing of the planned nero 9/3 was perfect.

September 2-Tuesday-Goat Rocks

One last look at Mount Adams, looking from the north.

The Goat Rocks being obscured by clouds.

Below the bottom snowfield were many mountain goats.

Quite the crowd of hikers, and more than a little banter.

Not a bad water source.

An impressive cairn

Snow still remains in the Goat Rocks.

Scrambling off the trail was not a favorite activity for Princess.

Legs were attached as it got cold.

Preparing for the strong winds and the hike on a knife edged ridge of the Goat Rocks. It was fun.

Knife edge ridge. Steep drops down both sides.

It was very windy as a storm was coming in.

The rain came on with a vengeance. I was so glad I had the tent, as opposed to the bivy sack. I slept well, but much was wet in the morning.

September 3-Wednesday-Nero in White Pass- Dry Out Day

An early morning climbing out of the tent and into the rain was in order. It rained hard through the night, and the winds blew. It then shifted to sprinkling in the morning. Packing up a wet tent helps get everything wet.

Misty and cold dominated the morning 13 mile hike. There weren't many views, a stark contrast to the previous day.

2300 miles.

A different PCT emblem.

Dick Eastlick came to White Pass to provide more support. He brought a box of 48 Snickers bars. Mr. Sandals wants Dick to be known as Mr. Snickers. He was a hit as he walked south on the trail to meet us and hand out trail magic.

The majority of the day was spent drying gear, cleaning, eating, and resting/resupplying.

At the gas station/store I met up with Teddy Rose and Trail Candy again. Teddy Rose is still going, despite her terrible foot problems. Theresa's taping job from Timberline Lodge has definitely helped her, and is still in place. Teddy Rose is one of many inspirational stories on the trail. She would probably finish even if she had to walk on her knees.

Dick Eastlick took us in to the nearby town of Packwood for a good dinner at a restaurant.

A good nero.
